I quicked attacked Squirtle anyway.

(AFAIK, we aren't playing by the game's rules, as Bulbasaur was able to counter Quick Attack with Razer Leaf, impossible in the games as well as those move pokemon wouldn't be able to start supposed to start with when you get them as starters).

But its a turn based rpg
and by your logic if im offline you and dr.time could post back and forth until you win

I don't understand what you mean.

I mean,you need to get enough Exp. Points to evolve.
But do one of the episodes tell otherwise?
Because I haven't watched many of the episodes so I could have missed something...

Also, technically, Pichu's are supposed to start with Thunder shock and Charm, but who cares.

In the games, the EXP system is used for leveling up.

All Pokemon have levels that tell the general strength of a Pokemon.

While it IS possible to level them up automatically using stuff like Rare Candies, they would still generally be weaker than Pokemon who got there by training properly, as they don't have the experience that one gets from battling other Pokemon

Most pokemon evolve be leveling up, but there's exeptions (like Pichu).

Some only evolve by trade (like Machoke), while some only evolve by using evolution stones on them (like Eevee for 3 of its evolutions: fire, water and electric. The other 4 evolution include evolving to a dark type pokemon with friendship at night, a psychic type with friendship during the day, a ice-type when Eevee level's up near a Ice Rock and a grass type when Eeve levels up near a Mossy Rock).

Other Evolutions:

Pokemon can also learn moves by leveling up, but that's not the only way to level them.

You can also use a TM or HM on the Pokemon as long as it's compatible for said Pokemon (ie, they have a means to be able to use it).

One can also teach the Pokemon a move manually (ie, tutoring them), but like HM's and TM's, it needs to be compatible with the Pokemon. A lot of people make a living doing this.

By the way, levels do exist in the anime, but it's only mentioned rarely.

Actually, if I remember correctly, Wurmple's evolution form depends on the Trainer ID, because I remember catching thousands of Wurmple and they only evolved into one Pokémon instead of the other. My Trainer ID was 19151, if I remember correctly.

Shane, for the purpose of this game, it'll be based upon personality.

Also, Bulbapedia states Wurmple evolves based upon its personality value.

I thought for this game we could just do everything by leveling up

^ It won't be accurate for the portrayal of Pokemon, though.

(Then again, the starter moves for our Pokemon are far different than the canon starter moves).

So it doesnt really matter

I'd prefer the evolution to be based on the actual evolution and not all of them level up.

Dr. Time has the final say, though, so unless he confirms whenever he'll follow your rules or mine, it's a Schrödinger's Cat setuation.

Of course, if this rule's in effect, which Pokemon does Pokemon with branching evolutions like Wurmple and Eevee evolve to when they level up?
